Located in northern Sweden (Swedish Lapland), Kiruna is situated above the Arctic Circle and is the largest urban area in the northern part of the country. The culturally dynamic city and economic hub is also famed for the stunning wilderness that surrounds it, including rolling hills, the nearby majestic Scandinavian Mountain Range, pristine glacial lakes and rivers, Arctic tundra, and boreal forests. In addition, due to its northern and elevated locale, Kiruna is an amazing place to observe the vibrant colours of the Northern Lights!
Immerse yourself in the marvels of Swedish Lapland in winter by joining a guided overnight igloo experience with snowmobiling from Kiruna. This remarkable family-friendly excursion begins at the meeting point in Kiruna, where you and your group (a maximum of 20 people) are greeted by your knowledgeable instructor/guide. Next, you'll board the vehicle and depart on the scenic transfer to the departure point for approximately 30-40 km (18-24 miles). Upon arrival, you'll receive a thermal suit, winter boots, and a helmet. After a safety and itinerary briefing, the group will be provided with an introduction to snowmobiling and snowmobile driving techniques. Children under the age of 13 are pulled in a sled behind the guide's snowmobile and little adventurers under 5 require an adult to be present with them in the sled.
Once the group is comfortable, the fun starts! You'll set out in the wilds of Swedish Lapland, snowmobiling in Kiruna, traversing a frozen river in search of the Northern Lights with only the lights of the snowmobiles and the stars overheard lighting the way. En route, you'll stop to savour the tranquillity of nature and take amazing photos. Returning to the igloo campsite, you'll be treated to a delicious campfire Nordic dinner (please list any dietary restrictions when booking). Throughout the overnight igloo experience with snowmobiling in Kiruna, your instructor will also share fascinating insights into local culture, nature, and the Northern Lights.
After a relaxing evening, you'll sleep soundly in your igloo with cosy insulated Arctic sleeping bags. The next morning, you'll wake up refreshed and enjoy breakfast before boarding the transfer back to civilization and the original meeting point in Kiruna with fond souvenirs of your unique and authentic Arctic experience.
