Val d’Aran: What to do when you get there?
An Atlantic valley in the middle of the Eastern Pyrenees, Val d’Aran has a territory filled with valleys and peaks that go over the 2000 metres above sea level. Due to its central location, the valley can be reached from Ariege, Aragon and Ribagorza.
This unique valley is home to the ski resort Baqueria Beret which is open since the 60’s. During winter its summits have a snow cape over them, allowing the practice of winter sports.
The resort is one of the best equipped ones in the Pyrenees, with 110km of ski slopes, a 7km Nordic ski circuit, a snowpark and over 32 lifts that will take you to some of the highest peaks.
In the summer, the highest mountains have endless tracks for Downhill Mountain biking lovers and countless paths for trekking enthusiast.
With the Garonne River passing through, you’ll find incredible rafting descents and kayaking excursions around Val d’Aran. This allows travellers to see the valley from a different perspective and marvel at the panoramas of the Pyrenees.
Another interesting activity is canyoning. There’s incredible ravines like Bausen, where you’ll find paths for beginners, intermediates and advanced. As well as via ferratas that can be done during all year. Some of the most famous ones are Vía Ferrata de Les, Vía Ferrata Poi d’Unha and Vía ferrata de Torre de Cledes de Les.
