Experience the magic of riding beneath the awe-inspiring Northern Lights on this guided dog sledding excursion from Kiruna in Sweden. Welcoming adventurers of all ages on this family-friendly tour!
Kiruna is a town located in the far north of Sweden, in the mystical region of Lapland. It is well-known for several reasons, including its mining activities, unique architecture, and stunning landscapes. Kiruna is a popular destination for discovering the distinct Arctic nature. Due to its proximity to the Arctic Circle, it is also one of the best places in the world to discover the magnificent Northern Lights!
The tour will begin at the pick-up location, Camp Ripan (with available transfers from listed locations, please specify when booking). Upon arrival, you will meet your experienced guide and dress in Arctic clothing (thermal overalls, boots, mittens, and hat). You and your group (a maximum of 8 participants) will then be driven to the husky kennels in Kiruna. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to meet and interact with the friendly huskies. After becoming acquainted with these delightful animals, your guide will take you through a safety briefing for dog sledding. Once you are all set, the adventure begins!
Each sled will sit between 2-4 people, and will be driven by the guide. Even though the journey occurs during the nighttime, the wilderness will be illuminated by the moonlight overhead. There is no feeling as magical as riding under this clear sky in the peaceful atmosphere of the snowy forest. If luck is on your side, you will be graced with the dance on the Aurora Borealis. In this remote location away from tourist areas and light pollution, the chances of witnessing the Northern Lights are high. Your guide will lead the dogs through the expansive wilderness while you can gaze at the beautiful lights in the sky. Don’t forget to bring your camera to capture this magnificent memory!
After riding for approximately 60 minutes, you will return to the base. You can help to get the dogs out of their harnesses and back to their kennels. The guide will teach you how to give the dogs a gentle massage after their exertion of energy. Then, you will enjoy a hot coffee around a roaring campfire or inside the house. In the tranquil evening setting, your guide will share tales about Arctic life and provide insights into the region. This family-friendly experience ensures that children also have time to interact, cuddle, and play with the dogs. After bidding farewell to your furry friends, your guide will drive you back to Kiruna.
For an unforgettable once-in-a-lifetime adventure, don’t miss this guided dog sledding excursion to witness the breathtaking Northern Lights in Sweden’s Kiruna!
