Experience one of Cape Town’s most popular hikes: the legendary Lion’s Head!
Lion’s Head is one of Cape Town’s iconic natural features, sitting in between Table Mountain and Signal Hill and forming part of Cape Town’s dramatic backdrop. At 669 metres above sea level, its peak offers incredible panoramic views of the city and ocean beyond, including views of Table Mountain, Devil’s Peak, the Twelve Apostles, and the Atlantic Seaboard. The hike to Lion’s Head’s summit is a fun, scenic hike and is a must do when visiting Cape Town! In fact, Lion’s Head is one of the most hiked peaks in the world and the most climbed peak on the African continent!
Beginning on Signal Hill Road, the trail to the top of Lion’s Head wraps around the mountain in a spiralling and mildly steep climb, giving you 360° views of Cape Town and its beautiful surroudings as you head up the trail! The hike itself lasts around 3-4 hours over a total of 5 km/3 miles. The top of the trail necessitates a bit of rock scrambling and there is a small section where metal ladders and climbing chains are utilised to ascend the rock face, creating a unique and memorable aspect to the hike! There is a roundabout footpath that allows this section to be skipped; however, in the hands of your certified and experienced guides, you will be well looked after during the entirety of the trail and you will be able to confidently follow in your guides footsteps.
With over 40 years of hiking experience, Table Mountain Treks and Tours focuses their knowledge and passion on leading private groups up Cape Town’s best hiking trails.
