Mount Olympus: What to do when you get there?
Mount Olympus is the highest mountain in Greece with its highest peak, Mytikas, at 2,918m. It is by far one of the most beautiful mountains in the Balkans, famous for being the residence of the ancient Greek Gods. You can easily reach mount Olympus from Athens (263 km) or from Thessaloniki (78km) being the closest airport (Makedonia airport).
The mountain is not far from the coastline of Pieria, offering many activities either on the beach either on the mountain. The area is ideal to practice trekking, paragliding, canyoning in the river of Pinios or by the sea, rafting, mountain-biking, skiing, and jeep safari. Mountaineering on Olympus is an extremely divine experience that fits all levels of stamina and endurance.
Climbing Mount Olympus doesn't demand technical hike, except for the final section from the Skala summit to the Mytikas peak (2,918m) which is a rock scramble area. Climbing on the mountain of the Twelve Gods is really unique, with extraordinary views on the "Throne of Zeus" or on the coastline.
