Kalymnos: What to do when you get there?
A rocky island in the east of the Aegean awaits to discover the various spots to climb and practice many sports. The 150.000 inhabitants of the island live in the central port, named Pothia. It's a beautiful and very picturesque city with vivid colours on the buildings. The island is famous for its sponge fishing tradition. In the island the most famous activity is climbing on the rocky mountains, somewhere in between the sea and the mountains.
How to get to Kalymnos?
Fly to Kos and take a ferry to Kalymnos There are many charter flights to Kos (Ryan Air, Easyjet,…). From the airport, it is 10 minutes drive to the port of Mastichari (by taxi or bus). Fast and slow ferries cross to Kalymnos every 2h more or less. It takes 20 to 50 minutes to get to Pothia (Kalymnos main port).
Fly to Kalymnos via Athens (Olympic Air) Kalymnos airport is only 15 minutes drive from the main touristic villages. There is one to two flights a day. Make sure your reserve in advance to get low fares.
Ferries from Kos to Kalymnos?
When arriving to Kos airport, the most common is to take the first ferry from Mastichari. There, you will find cafés and restaurant to wait the next ferry. There are also hotels and studios if you missed the last ferry or if you want to sleep over to take an early morning flight. There is no need to reserve the ferry in advance, a small ticket desk will open on the harbour just before departure.
