At the entrance to the Picos de Europa National Park, La Hermida is a must for all climbing enthusiasts, the village offering several via ferrata routes for all levels. These adventures are accessible on your own, but it is best to be accompanied by a guide so that you can enjoy the routes in complete safety, with all the necessary equipment and advice to help you get over the obstacles in your path with confidence. That is what the Canoe Aventura Trophy team is offering you with this experience, combining the El Milar via ferrata and the Escalera al Cielo via ferrata, 2 not-to-be-missed courses in the Picos de Europa!

Each of them takes around 1 hour to complete, and each has its own special attraction: the El Milar via ferrata overlooks the Deva River in La Hermida Gorge, while the Escalera al Cielo via ferrata features an impressive 50-metre-long suspended ladder. You will enjoy some superb scenery throughout the experience, all the while having fun on the different workshops on each route, between rungs and steel cables, and even a 25-metre-long zip line crossing the Deva River at the end of the El Milar via ferrata!

La Hermida is undoubtedly THE destination not to be missed if you want to go via ferrata in the Picos de Europa. Halfway between Potes and the Atlantic coast, the village is very easy to get to, so there is no reason why you shouldn't join the Canoe Aventura Trophy guides on this adventure combining the El Milar via ferrata and the Escalera al Cielo via ferrata!

Practical information

Set off on an adventure on the El Milar via ferrata in La Hermida, a medium-difficulty route (K2-K3 level) lasting about 1 hour and divided into 3 sections:

  • an initial section of around 20 metres of vertical ascent;
  • a section of around 80 metres of horizontal progression;
  • a final climb to the summit, then back down to the river where a 25-metre zip line awaits you.

And then, go straight on to the via ferrata Escalera a Cielo (Stairway to Heaven), another medium-difficulty route (level K3) lasting around 1 hour and featuring an impressive 50-metre-long suspended ladder!

Course of events

Please allow around 2.5 hours for the whole experience.

  • Meeting with the guide in front of the tourist office in La Hermida
  • Distribution of via ferrata equipment
  • Approx. 5-minute walk to the start of the via ferrata course
  • Briefing on the course and safety instructions
  • Departure for the El Milar via ferrata route, which takes around 1 hour to complete
  • Walk of around 100 metres to reach the Escalera a Cielo via ferrata route
  • Departure for the Escalera a Cielo via ferrata route, which takes around 1 hour to complete
  • Approx. 20-minute return walk to the meeting point
  • Return of the equipment and end of the activity

Written parental authorisation is required for minors to participate in this activity without an accompanying adult.
