Looking for an authentic Norwegian experience? Join along a unique immersion trip in a traditional reindeer farm in Tromsø followed by a taste of local culture!
The Sami people, the original inhabitants of Scandinavia, have been living side by side with reindeer for centuries. You now have the chance to have a taste of this amazing culture. You will be picked up from Tromso city centre, and be driven to the reindeer farm along a 25-minute seaside route.
Once you've arrived at the reindeer camp, you'll be warmly welcomed by the reindeer herders who will teach you about these amazing animals and their role in Sami culture. At the camp, you'll spot a herd of over 300 reindeer and another 1000 or so in the mountains running free!
You will head over to meet the herd. Over 300 friendly reindeer will quickly surround you, and some might even get so comfortable with your presence that they'll eat right from your hand! Then, in a different area, you'll be taught how to use the lasso, and you'll practice this new skill on a target resembling a reindeer.
After some quality time with the reindeer, you'll be invited to a gamme or a lavvu where you'll enjoy a traditional Sami stew cooked over an open fire. After dinner, you will all gather around the fire to share stories of the Sami culture and enjoy some traditional joik singing!
The farm is located in the middle of beautiful wilderness. In the pitch-black darkness of the night, you may even get a chance to see the Northern Lights! A 25 min. ride back to Tromso will allow soaking in an incredible day in the wild!
