The Northern Lights tour in Tromsø departs from the city centre. Upon arrival at the starting point, you'll meet the passionate guide and board the comfortable 17-seater minibus. Your guide will analyse the weather conditions and give you a quick briefing about the itinerary and the possible locations that you will visit throughout the evening. The route you take will depend entirely on the forecast of the day, and may include driving to coastal islands, or even towards the Finnish border. Once you’re set, you will head out on your Northern Lights hunt from Tromsø!

Throughout the ride, you will stop in multiple locations until you find the perfect spot to set up a bonfire while waiting for the spectacle. For your convenience, thermal suits and boots are available to keep you warm and cosy. Relax by the fire while sipping hot drinks and warming up with a delicious wrapped reindeer sausage under the starlight (vegetarian options are available). Your guide will share some fascinating facts and stories about the Arctic as you gather around the campfire and wait for the Aurora Borealis to take the stage.

If the Northern Lights don’t appear, you may head in a different direction with more optimal conditions. The guide will also capture professional photos of you with the Arctic sky. If you bring your own camera, tripods are available and your guide and professional photographer will take the time to help you with the camera set-up. Take in the magnificent scenery and enjoy the dancing Auroras right above you! After the Northern Lights tour in Tromsø, you'll head back to the city. The guide will drop you at your accommodation in the city centre.

On this excursion, you'll depart from Tromsø and embark on a Northern Lights chase by minibus.

Course of events

- Please arrive at the starting point in Tromsø at least 15 minutes before the departure time

In addition, all participants must dress in warm clothing and layers. Although thermal suits are provided, it is important to dress properly for the Arctic.

We had the best night with our guide Harry and driver Peter. Harry was so enthusiastic and told us all about the science of how the aurora is formed as well as its differing cultural significance across the world’s cultures. I couldn’t believe how quickly they found it for us, within 35 minutes we were having pictures taken with our first sighting. As soon as it faded they took us to another spot with no clouds and we stayed there for 4 hours getting multiple sightings of the northern lights. They stay out as long as you need to until everyone has got their fix. We also had time to have a camp fire and cook some sausages. One word of warning, there are no toilets where you go. So don’t drink too much before you head out.

Great guide Adrian who explained everything thoroughly and took great care of us, although it was a cloudy day with lower chances, he found us an excellent spot and we saw the northern lights! Only comment would be to eat beforehand as the meal is not substantial at all (sausage on a campfire) so bring some snacks

We were extremely lucky to see the auroras a short time after arriving at the spot. It was an amazing display and would definitely recommend this activity. The campfire with the drinks and hotdog was very nice also to get a bit warmer.

The driver and guide were both very warm and helpful throughout the experience. They helped us figure out how to take the best pictures on our DSLR as well as providing us with a great dinner and beautiful views.
