The Northern Lights tour in Tromsø departs from the city centre. Upon arrival at the starting point, you'll meet the passionate guide and board the comfortable 17-seater minibus. Your guide will analyse the weather conditions and give you a quick briefing about the itinerary and the possible locations that you will visit throughout the evening. The route you take will depend entirely on the forecast of the day, and may include driving to coastal islands, or even towards the Finnish border. Once you’re set, you will head out on your Northern Lights hunt from Tromsø!

Throughout the ride, you will stop in multiple locations until you find the perfect spot to set up a bonfire while waiting for the spectacle. For your convenience, thermal suits and boots are available to keep you warm and cosy. Relax by the fire while sipping hot drinks and warming up with a delicious wrapped reindeer sausage under the starlight (vegetarian options are available) Your guide will share some fascinating facts and stories about the Arctic as you gather around the campfire and wait for the Aurora Borealis to take the stage.

If the Northern Lights don’t appear, you may head in a different direction with more optimal conditions. The guide will also capture professional photos of you with the Arctic sky. If you bring your own camera, tripods are available and your guide and professional photographer will take the time to help you with the camera set-up. Take in the magnificent scenery and enjoy the dancing Auroras right above you! After the Northern Lights tour in Tromsø, you'll head back to the city. The guide will drop you at your accommodation in the city centre.

On this excursion, you'll depart from Tromsø and embark on a Northern Lights chase by minibus.

Course of events

- Please arrive at the starting point in Tromsø at least 15 minutes before the departure time

- Meet the guide and board the minibus

- Briefing of the tour

- The Northern Lights chase begins!

- Drive into the wilderness

- Arrive at the optimal viewpoint

- Enjoy campfire meal and hot drinks

- Admire the Northern Lights

- Continue driving

- Capture photos

- Return to Tromsø and drop-off at your accommodation in the city centre

Please be advised that this tour is not suitable for people with mobility issues or pregnant people.

In addition, all participants must dress in warm clothing and layers. Although thermal suits are provided, it is important to dress properly for the Arctic.

If you’ve done your research on Northern Lights tours, you know many aspects are based on luck: weather/clear skies, space storms, and your guide. These things you can’t really control. My partner and I lucked out infinitely because we had: fantastic weather, there was a fast, powerful storm in space that set up an incredible aurora early in the evening, and we had Harry as our guide. Now, we had an unreal display of aurora on our trip, but even if we hadn’t, Harry would have made our tour. If we come back to Tromsø, I wouldn’t consider going with anyone else. Harry was an expert at the skies and got us out quickly so we had the best chance of seeing the auroras. He knew tons abut the physics of the aurora, how different cultures interpreted the auroras, and much more. We enjoyed a fantastic meal and show under the stars. One of the best experiences my partner and I ever had. Thank you, Harry and Northern Horizons!!

Just fabulous. Harry was an amazing guide - within 25 mins of leaving Tromso the sky exploded 3 times with extraordinary northern lights - we were so lucky. Harry was so knowledgable and gave us lots interesting facts and stories around the camp fire. It was a truly magical experience with a superb guide.
