Discover scuba diving and try your first dive in Santorini, exploring the underwater world of this volcanic island. Welcoming beginners from ages 10 and up!
Santorini is an island located in the southern Aegean Sea, part of the Cyclades group of islands in Greece, known for its beautiful beaches, archaeological sites and crystal-clear waters! This excursion takes place from Akrotiri in Santorini, a once-flourishing Bronze Age settlement that was buried under volcanic ash during the eruption of the volcano.
The adventure begins by meeting your experienced instructor at the dive centre in Akrotiri. This activity is for beginners, no previous scuba diving experience is needed to join. You'll start on Caldera Beach, a picturesque stretch of coastline that offers stunning views of the volcanic cliffs and the azure waters of the Aegean Sea. The instructor will cover the basics of physics, physiology and underwater communication. Then, you will learn about the scuba diving gear (fins, mask, wetsuit, regulators, tank and weights).
After preparing the equipment, you'll enter the clear waters from the beach. In water shallow enough to stand up in, you'll perform some simple exercises, and then you will learn how to breathe underwater for the first time. Once you feel comfortable, it's time for the first dive! With the instructor, you will explore a rocky reef, diving to a maximum depth of 6-7 metres (19-23ft). Here, you will discover the unique volcanic architecture of the seabed and encounter some vibrant marine life. After diving underwater for approximately 35 minutes, you'll return the equipment to the centre in Akrotiri.
This discover scuba dive session is the perfect way to experience the sensation of diving for the first time along Santorini's stunning coastline from Akrotiri!
