Around a 40-minute drive from Tarascon-sur-Ariège, this chasm is the deepest in the region at around -700 metres over 4 km, making it an exceptional site for caving in the Ariege Pyrenees.
Between vertical passages, large galleries, shafts up to 60-metre high and an underground river, you will be immersed underground for almost 11 hours, enough to delight not only thrill-seekers but also lovers of beautiful landscapes who will be delighted to discover unique scenery by torchlight, between lherzolite and pink marbled limestone. Accompanied by a professional instructor, you will reach a siphon at a depth of -400 metres, the ultimate goal of your caving trip in the Port de l'Hers chasm, where the temperature is around 8°C.
In a small group of no more than 4 participants, this caving adventure in the Ariege Pyrenees, at Mont Béas, will offer you an exceptional day in the bowels of the Earth!

Practical information
A day of caving in the Port de l'Hers chasm to reach a siphon at a depth of -400 metres, including an abseil down a 60-metre shaft.
- Meeting with the instructor in the car park in front of the Etang de Lers restaurant
- Briefing on the activity and safety instructions
- 15-minute approach walk to the chasm
- Distribution of equipment and gear-up
- Departure for around 11 hours of caving in the Port de l'Hers chasm, including a picnic break in the heart of the cave
- Return to the meeting point at around 8 p.m., de-equipping and end of the activity
This activity is not accessible to pregnant people.
Claustrophobia poses no problem when taking part in this activity (you can always turn around if you need to).
