Arrábida Natural Park, located just south of Lisbon, is one of Portugal’s most stunning natural landscapes. This protected area stretches along the coastline between Setúbal and Sesimbra, offering breathtaking cliffs, lush Mediterranean forests, and crystal-clear waters. It is an outdoor lover’s dream, with a perfect mix of land and sea activities for adventurers of all levels.

History and Cultural Significance of Arrábida

Arrábida’s unique landscape has played an important role in Portuguese history. The region has been inhabited since prehistoric times, with traces of ancient settlements found in its limestone caves. The park is also home to the 16th-century Convento da Arrábida, a monastery hidden within the hills, where monks once sought solitude and spiritual connection with nature.

Arrábida’s coastline has long been a centre for traditional fishing and maritime trade, contributing to the region’s rich cultural heritage. Today, it remains a sanctuary for biodiversity, with efforts in place to protect its marine ecosystems and forested hills from urban development.

The cave was an amazing beginner cave to experience it for the first time, very beautiful parts and challenging enough. We then had the option to abseil and it was such an adrenaline rush!

The activity was awesome! It lasted for a bit more than 4 hours and we were in a small group of 4, so we could move along quickly and didn’t have to wait too much.
