Swim with seals and experience the joy of interacting with wild animals in their natural habitat in South Africa’s beautiful Plettenberg Bay!

Plettenberg Bay, also known by locals as Plett, is located along the lovely Garden Route, South Africa’s hub for all things outdoor and adventure! With its rich nature reserves, whale and dolphin watching, an abundance of outdoor activities to do, Plettenberg Bay is a must see when visiting South Africa. For an experience that is uniquely South African and 100% adventurous, check out this fantastic opportunity to get in the water with Cape Fur seals!

After checking in with your guides at the ProDive centre and getting equipped with the provided snorkel gear, you will take a short beachside stroll to the boat where you will be given a thorough safety and activity briefing to prepare you for the adventure ahead. From there, you will enjoy a boat excursion to the Robberg Nature Reserve to meet some South African seals! Along the way, you will come across some iconic South African birdlife, including the largest flock of Cape Cormorants and even some Cape Gannets!

You will know you have arrived at your final destination as the Cape Fur seals come to greet you right by the boat. These friendly seals can't wait for you to join them in the water for a splash. The seals of Plettenberg Bay love interacting with us humans, and may even try to imitate you as you hope into the water and snorkel beside them!

If you do not wish to go into the water, or have a child under the age of 6 years old on board, this activity offers the choice to stay aboard the boat and watch the seals from above the surface with a great view of all the action! After the exhilarating seal snorkelling experience, once you are back at the ProDive centre you will be able to use their showers and changing rooms to freshen up after your unforgettable encounter with South Africa’s marine life.

Book this unique seal snorkelling experience in Plettenberg Bay and get up close and personal with the pups of the sea!

RABIES UPDATE ⚠️:
We want to keep you informed about the recent rabies cases identified in seals. Our team is actively monitoring the situation in coordination with the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, as well as Cape Nature who manage Robberg Nature Reserve. While the cases have been isolated, we’ve introduced additional safety measures to protect everyone.
To help manage the risk, we’ve implemented extra precautions by working together with the other operators & have experienced marine spotters keeping an eye out for any unusual seal behaviour.
During excursions, our guides carry first aid kits specifically for bite injuries and are always close by while you’re in the water, ready to assist immediately. The boat stays close to the group to pick up swimmers swiftly, if required. We have a 30 year impeccable safety record and our crew are always ready to react in any situation.
Our local trauma doctor is fully equipped to handle seal bite incidents and we have ensured that vaccines are readily available.
If you’re feeling unsure, you’re welcome to switch to a viewing trip instead—it’s just as fun and a great way to enjoy the experience from a different perspective. Whatever you choose, we’re here to make sure your adventure is both safe, enjoyable & memorable!
