Ever wanted to share a wave with a bottlenose dolphin or learn your standing series on one South Africa's most beautiful beaches?
Head to Plettenberg Bay for pumping swells and stunning scenery in the heart of the Garden Route. A mecca for watersports enthusiasts thanks to its pristine beaches, clean, warm water and moderate swells - learning to ride on Plettenberg's central Blue Flag beach offers a range of conditions to suit all levels - and even the catch for a few dolphin sightings, if you're lucky!
Location
Situated in the Western Cape Province of South Africa, Plettenberg Bay is a 2hr drive from Port Elizabeth on the eastern cape. Part of the Robberg Nature Reserve World Heritage Site on the Garden Route, a sanctuary for birdlife, land animals and marine life.
Activity
Whether you're learning to paddle out or perfect your green wave turns, this 2-hour surfing course can be adapted to suit the overall class level. Organised according to previous experience and skill set, master your standing series on the beach and get pushed towards the shore - or for those of you ready to ride rails, paddle out back and tackle the Plett wedge!
Conditions
An exposed beach break with a consistent clean swell, the choppy surf can make paddling out difficult when the wind is onshore. February is the hottest month with an average temperature of 21°C (70°F) and the coldest is June at 14°C (57°F).
