Have you ever dreamed of getting up close and personal with one of the biggest animals in the world? Now is your chance to see these awe-inspiring creatures!

Hermanus is South Africa’s premier whale watching destination and is recognised by the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) as one of the best whale watching destinations in the world! When you visit Hermanus, the seas are so abundant with sea life that you will be able to catch sight of whales as you walk along the shore – there is even a Hermanus whale caller who blows a kelp horn to alert everyone of whale sightings! However, for a truly special and up-close encounter with the magnificent mammals, set sail with professional whale watching operators, Southern Right Charters, and whale watch from the high seas!

Thanks to Southern Right Charters' role as professional and ecological whale watching tour operators since 1999, they have been given a permit that allows them to approach whales up to 50 metres away and then stay to observe them. Whales, being naturally curious creatures, usually approach right up to the boat!

Southern Right Whales can be seen along South Africa’s southern coast from June to December each year to mate and calve in the shallow waters. There are also visiting Brydes Whales all year round, and Humpback whales pass through between June and September on their way north to warmer waters. From Hermanus, you may also have the chance to see Cape fur seals, dolphins, and even African penguins -- there is always incredible sea life to be seen!

Hermanus whale watching trips with Southern Right Charters begin with an on-land briefing led by a whale specialist. After the briefing, you will set off from Hermanus New Harbour on board a specially designed catamaran that provides optimised viewing and comfort as you go on a search for the gentle giants!

Onboard, you'll have a whale specialist guide that will interpret the marine life encountered en route and provide insight into the behaviour of the whales. Also on the boat, you'll have a videographer who will ensure that the best footage is captured and a friendly crew looking to make your experience amazing. Once back on land, you'll be able to purchase a video of your experience and relax at the Southern Right Charter centre's outdoor seating on the edge of the quay with reading material on all things whales!

Wir hatten Glück und haben viele Wale gesehen. Bei unserer zweiten Tour auch Delfine und Robben und eine riesige Kormoran-Kolonie. Es war ein wundervolles Ereignis! Danke!
