On several Mondays throughout the year, mountain guides offer you the chance to discover some of Reunion Island's most emblematic sites on a hike, with a different place to visit depending on the date:
La Plaine des Sables - a 9 km / 5-hour accessible hike on Piton de la Fournaise, with different itineraries available, on and off trails, depending on the level of the group. You will search for Olivine crystals and volcanic bombs, explore chaotic craters and admire splendid panoramas of the Piton de la Fournaise surroundings from viewpoints such as Piton Chisny!
Le Maïdo - a 12 km / 6-hour hike along the ramparts of the Cirque de Mafate, with 450 metres of ascent, requiring a good level of fitness. The route starts from the viewpoint at Le Maïdo, at an altitude of around 2,150 metres, and takes you up to 2,600 metres, below the summit of Le Grand Bénare to discover exceptional landscapes and historic sites!
Grand Etang - an 8 km / 4-hour hike around the Grand Etang, ideal for hikers of all abilities from the age of 10. You will discover the rich ecosystem all around the Grand Etang (endemic trees, fish, forest birds, papangue, etc.), as well as the waterfalls of the Bras d'Annette which flow into it.
Le Dimitile - a hike to the foot of the Dimitile summit, on a 14 km trail with an 800 metre ascent. You will need to be in good physical condition for the 6-hour hike to reach the breathtaking panorama of the Cirque de Cilaos and then the "camp marron".
