The fjord ice fishing trip from Tromsø begins at the meeting point in the city centre, where you'll be greeted by your experienced guide. They will provide all of the equipment needed for the ice fishing excursion, as well as thermal overalls to keep you warm and comfortable throughout the day. Then, you'll travel approximately 30 minutes away to the wilderness area outside of Tromsø. You'll arrive at a beautiful fjord, with the surface frozen during the winter. The guide will drill a hole into the ice for your ice fishing experience in Tromsø!

With the help and instructions from the guide, you'll cast your line and wait for a catch. The guide will teach you all of the best tips and tricks for fishing as you enjoy the peaceful setting and incredible winter scenery! You'll also have a magnificent view of the surrounding towering mountains. Afterwards, a delicious barbeque meal and hot drinks will be served in a nearby hut. If you did manage to catch a fish, you'll learn how to prepare and cook it! As you indulge in your fresh meal, the guide will share insights about life in the Arctic. Then, you'll be driven back to the starting point in Tromsø centre.

Practical information

On this excursion, you'll depart from Tromsø centre and embark on an ice fishing experience on the fjord.

Course of events

- Arrive at the starting point in Tromsø city

- Meet the guide and receive the equipment (thermal overalls, backpack with snacks and drinks)

- Drive to the fishing spot in the wilderness (approximately 30 minutes)

- Arrive at the frozen fjord

- Safety briefing and instructions

- The ice fishing adventure begins!

- Try to catch a fish in the fjord

- Drive to a nearby hut

- Prepare and cook the fish

- Enjoy meal and hot drinks

- Return drive to the starting point in Tromsø city (approximately 30 minutes)

Special terms

Winter shoes can be provided upon special request, please contact your instructor directly after booking to arrange.

If you catch a fish, it will be prepared for lunch. A fish meal will still be provided even if you don't get a catch.

It is a really fun experience fishing in the winter. You get the experience drilling and fishing with the help of the instructor. Moreover, you get to eat the fish that you caught.

We had never been ice fishing, and thought it might be interesting to try. SO glad we did! We were contacted a couple days before we were scheduled to go, because our guide had been concerned that the ice would not be sufficiently solid and safe for us to proceed. However, the weather cooperated and the ice was frozen and thick enough for us to go. In our small group, there was a couple including one guy who was a fly fishing guide at home; and a family of 3 including a father and son who both enjoyed fishing regularly and had considerable experience. Our family enjoyed the experiences of walking out onto the frozen water, drilling our own holes using the guide's equipment, being out in the beautiful, scenic fjord, and the small group. All 8 of us caught fish, and so much that our guide was surprised.

Spot and guide were really nice, but we stayed in harsh cold during 1.5hr and got only one fish (fortunately...) at the very end! I know it's something beyond our control but I find the whole experience overpriced for what it delivers. I enjoyed all the rest though, including: the welcome from the guide, the explanations of the fishing method (even if I didn't have the opportunity to go all the way), the preparation of the meal and the meal itself.
