About the activity

Embark on a full-day adventure in the winter wonderland of Northern Norway, situated north of the Arctic Circle and enjoy this snowshoeing excursion with Ice Domes and reindeer visit from Tromsø! Set among stunning high mountains and a snow-covered valley, the Ice Domes and Camp Tamok are home to some incredible ice sculptures and impressive snow carvings, as well as wild landscapes and some expert instructors that can take visitors snowmobiling, dog sledding, Northern Lights hunting, and, of course, snowshoeing.

Your adventure begins with a pick-up from Tromsø's city center, where you will embark on a 90-minute scenic ride toward Camp Tamok, admiring the mesmerising landscapes and white-washed mountains of the Arctic. Upon arrival, you will receive warm winter clothing, the snowshoes, and a safety briefing for the experience. Once you're well-equipped, you will set off on your snowshoe adventure, hiking through the snow-covered trails in the Norwegian wilderness. For the more daring participants, you may follow the deeper snowy paths and challenge yourself to a more demanding trekking adventure.

Along the way, your guide will teach you some Arctic wilderness survival strategies and skills, which are essential in the Arctic Circle. You will learn how to set up a camp and sleep outdoors, what to eat, how to spot animal tracks, and how to find your way home. You will then make a stop and, if the weather permits it, light up a campfire to enjoy a delicious and homemade meal while you take in the stillness of the overall scenery, set far away from the city. If the weather does not allow it, you will prepare the meal in a heated lavvu instead.

Once you've recharged, you will head to the Ice Domes Snow Park and discover the magic of the snow and ice sculptures. Wander around the mesmerising displays of snow and ice sculptures, and a snow maze and explore the two iconic icy domes. Marvel at the amazing art coming to life with clever lighting and enjoy all of this in the stunning Arctic Landscapes of northern Norway.

Lastly, you will have the opportunity to spend some time with the reindeer and huskies that are cared for at the wilderness centre. You'll get to pet the huskies and take pictures with the reindeer herd, before heading back to Tromsø for the end of your snowshoeing excursion with Ice Domes and reindeer visit from Tromsø.

Enjoy a day in the snowy landscapes of northern Norway, learning new skills and spending time on unique, once-in-a-lifetime activities. Book your snowshoeing excursion with Ice Domes and reindeer visit from Tromsø today!

We were welcomed by our very friendly tourguide when we arrived at the ice domes. With a small group (7) we started our wilderness snow shoes skills hike. All of the equipment and the thermo overalls were given to us right before we stared our hike. Our tourguide told us a lot about the wildlife and nature while we walked trough the snow and the beautiful landscape. We were greeted by some super cute and happy huskies who were part of the husky sledding group. During our walk we stopped to sit by a fire and enjoyed some hot chocolate and (vegetarian) sausages. After our hike we visited the ice domes and ended the tour with a shot of wodka with our tourguide.
