Iceland Rovers is the most awarded outdoor adventure tour company in Iceland with professional guides who truly know the lay of the land. Your local guide will pick you up at your accommodation in Reykjavík between 8:00 to 8:20am. You will head east by Jeep in the direction of Þórsmörk Valley inching closer to the majestic Eyjafjallajökull Volcano. Named after the Norse God Thor, the mountain ridge of Þórsmörk Valley offers spectacular gorges, icy rivers, and picturesque landscapes. After traversing the valley, you will make your way up to Gígjökull, an outlet glacier falling down from the Eyjafjallajökull Volcano crater. A guide will explain the various forces behind the 2010 eruption that is still visible today.
Now it’s time to stretch your legs and go for a short glacier walk up to the ice field of Sólheimajökull glacier, this will take approximately 1:30 min. On this walk you will learn about Icelandic glaciers, the effects of climate change, and observe breathtaking ice sculptures. Iceland Rovers recommends bringing a refillable water bottle so you can taste the delicious and fresh water straight from the glacier. After the walk, you will head back to Reykjavík with a visit to two beautiful waterfalls along the way, the Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss.
