Discover the famous lava tunnels of HITIAA (lavatubes) and its magnificent sculptures with an experienced instructor in Tahiti.
Between aquatic trekking and canyoning, the crossing of the lavatubes of Hitiaa is a must for any hiker visiting the island of Tahiti.
The lava tunnels were formed during the volcanic era when the island was created. The rocks and vaults have been sculpted by Mother Nature over hundreds of thousands of years. Inside, it's dark and damp but the scenery will leave you speechless!
This tour of the lavatubes in Tahiti is for good sportsmen and hikers. You will still be accompanied by a canyoning instructor and hiking guide with many years of experience in French Polynesia.
Program
Starting from Hitiaa, you will walk for about fifteen minutes lit by your headlamp.
You will access directly, via a private access, the third tunnel which is without doubt the most impressive. It is a large labyrinth with a water course, waterfalls, and many pools where you can jump several meters high. These tunnels are also called the golden caves because their walls are covered with a small golden algae.
At the exit of the lavatubes, you will follow a beautiful river with waterfalls where you will be able to swim. The second part of the trip is done in the middle of a luxuriant vegetation with magnificent landscapes.
The canyoning option allows you to discover the lavatubes of Tahiti in a more technical way with abseiling.
