Find out everything you need to know about mountain safety with a Snow and Avalanche course from Tignes! Develop your ability to read the signs and make the right decisions during an avalanche awareness session in Tignes (Espace Killy).
When snow falls on the mountains, there is always a risk of avalanche. This risk is limited on shallow slopes but increases with the steepness of the terrain. There are "dangerous" slope angles that cause the most avalanches, and where most off-piste routes are practiced.
Safety in hazardous areas is relative. Depending on many interdependent factors, the stability of the snowpack can be affected in a short period of time, to the extent that a stable slope at 10am is no longer stable at 2pm.
Understanding the effects and potential outcomes of your interaction with the mountain environment in winter is the first step to reducing risk.
With Kev Herbert, instructor at Tignes Off-Piste, you can take part in a 3 hour introductory mountain safety session from Tignes (SafetyBasics) or a detailed 3 hour snow safety session for the more experienced off-piste skiers (SafetyPractice).
