This 5-6 hour adventure begins when you meet your guide at the Heart Creek car park. There, you'll discuss safety, trip progress and equipment before setting off on a 3km approach hike with 200 metres of ascent to the upper canyon. From here, you'll descend Heart Creek Canyon with the help of your guide and practise abseiling until you reach the final highlight: abseiling down a magnificent 18-metre waterfall! If you don't feel comfortable, this obstacle can be avoided.

Practical information

This 5-6 hour activity is perfect for a first taste of canyoning in Heart Creek near Banff. The descent is mainly a hike in the canyon with short abseils and an 18-metre abseil that can be bypassed.

  • An excellent option for groups of different levels.

Course of events
  • Meet at the Heart Creek car park (15 minutes east of Canmore town centre), 15 minutes before departure time.
  • Equipment and safety: You will have a quick chat with your guide to discuss the progress of the excursion, equipment and safety.
  • Access to the canyon: You will walk to the upper entrance of the canyon, generally between 30 and 45 minutes' walk (3km / 200 metres ascent).
  • Canyoning: From here you descend the upper canyon. This section is fun and picturesque. The minimal exposure allows everyone to feel comfortable on the rope at their own pace.
  • Short walk: 5 minutes' walk from the end of the upper section before reaching the last section of the canyon.
  • Abseiling: A magnificent waterfall and an 18-metre abseil for the grand finale! Those who don't feel comfortable can bypass this section.
  • Back to the car park.
Activity requirements

No previous canyoning experience is necessary, but a moderate level of fitness is required to take part in this trip.

Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

A minimum of 2 participants is required for the activity to take place.

  • Minimum height: 137 cm (4'6'')
  • Maximum waist size: 107 cm (for trouser size 42)
Special terms

This activity is not suitable for pregnant women or people with physical disabilities.

You may want to bring a sturdy box to store your glasses in case you need to put them away, as well as a small cord so you don't lose them.

Please arrive at the meeting point 15 minutes early.

Pets are not allowed on the tour.
