Located north-east of Banff, in a remote area in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, Ghost Canyon offers an incredible day's adventure in a spectacular wilderness setting. Accessible by 4x4, then a 30-45 minute hike, this canyon in Banff National Park offers a course packed with a variety of obstacles (abseils, natural slides and jumps) that you will complete in 3 to 4 hours, alongside a professional instructor to ensure your safety.

Whether or not you have previous abseiling experience, Ghost Canyon in Alberta is open to anyone comfortable with heights, from the age of 14. The only thing you will need is a good pair of sports shoes or hiking boots (no sneakers!), suitable not only for the walks to and from the canyon but also for your descent of Ghost Canyon so you don't slip. A total of 4 abseils await you, as well as numerous natural slides and jumps into pools for a thrilling canyoning adventure in Banff National Park!

Practical information

Course of events

- Meeting with the instructor at the Heart Creek parking lot staging area

- Shuttle bus to the canyon area (approx. 1.5 hours)

- Hike of 30 to 45 minutes to the start of Ghost Canyon

- Equipment and briefing on the activity and safety instructions

- Mandatory rappel and rope safety clinic

- Start of the canyoning trip, comprising 4 abseils interspersed with natural slides, jumps into pools and walking and scrambling sessions (3 to 4 hours trip)

- De-equipping, followed by a 30 to 45-minute hike back to the shuttle bus

- Return journey to the car park (approx. 1.5 hours) to complete the activity

Activity requirements

Being comfortable with heights is necessary to take part in this activity. It is not mandatory to know how to swim.

Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

A minimum number of 2 participants is required for this activity to take place.

You will need a Kananaksis Conservation Pass to park your vehicle in the parking lot.

Special terms

A waiver of liability will be signed on site (due to the legal requirements in Canada, a liability waiver is required from every participant).

If you wish to benefit from a pick-up from Canmore, please contact the instructor once your booking has been confirmed to arrange pick-up from your hotel in Canmore or the Travel Alberta visitor info Center in Canmore (opposite the legacy trail bus stop (first bus stop in Canmore) for the Banff/Canmore roam transit line three which provides public bus transport from Banff to Canmore approximately every 30 minutes).
