Hiking Expedition in the Amazon rainforest in French Guiana

Practical information
Go on a 4-day hike in the Amazon rainforest! Don't forget to bring all you need in your backpack!
Fees:
1 person: €400/people/day (total of €1600)
2 persons: €210/people/day (total of €1680)
3 persons: €145/people/day (total of €1740)
4-8 persons: €110/people/day (total of €440 for each participant)
9-25 persons: €100/people/day (total of €400 for each participant)
Day 1
• 7.30am: Meeting at the intersection between RN1 and the road of Petit-Saut. You can choose between several options:
- Come by yourself (you can park on the disused parking lot)
- Come with the minivan of a tourism agency. For this option, please ask Atmosphere Amazonie to give you some contacts of local agencies (there will be an additional fee).
- Come with the guide's vehicle (3/4 seats maximum). For this option, please ask the guide in advance.
• Convoy transfer from the road of Petit Saut (special authorization needed) to get to the landing area, 30-minute drive approx. (Don't forget your identity papers!)
• 9am: Boarding on a boat with an aluminium hull towards the Saut Takari Tanté. Discovery of the Petit Saut dam (stunning landscapes). 3.5 hour boat ride to cross the dam including a relaxing coffee break halfway.
• Arrival at Carbet Aïmara. Luggage unloading and settling in Carbet.
- Greeting and short break to quench your thirst, followed by a brief on how to live in a community.
- Discovery of the site and swim in the river to refresh yourself
- Aperitif, lunch, setting up the hammocks
- Preparing the activities, relaxing
• 3-4pm: Departure to discover the Saut Takari Tanté, rapids and sand beach during the dry season. Unmonitored swimming. Fishing for food is allowed.
- Discovery of the chemin de Halage to get to the wide river of Sinnamary.
• 5-6pm: Paddling down the river while listening to all the sounds around you and observing the fauna and flora
In the evening, you will enjoy a wonderful sunset.
• Evening and diner in Carbet. Night stroll and/or night swim for those who want to.
You will sleep in a hammock.
Days 2 to 3
You will do many different activities:
• Departure of the backpack hike for the day
• Discovering and observing the fauna and flora. Feel free to take some pictures!
• Day and night hiking inside and outside the tracks
• Initiation to bivouac: you will set up a bivouac along the banks of a little cove (small river, stream) in the middle of the forest, off the beaten tracks
• Relaxing
• Discovering life in the Amazon
Day 4 (last day!)
• Breakfast between 7 and 8am
• Fishing, swimming and relaxing
• Lunch. Preparing the gear and storing the hammock. Transfering the luggage. Loading the boat and departure at 3pm. Arrival at Petit Saut around 6pm.
Storing the equipment. Back to the starting point of the hike.
• Time to say good bye!
Airport pick up on specific request and transfer to the hotel in Kourou or somewhere else if necessary and upon request.
After the hike: transfer to your accomodation.
On the last day of your stay; transfer to the airport.
Please bring €10 per night for the secured parking lot.
Possibility to rent the equipment (upon request) for €5/night:
- Waterproof container
- Machete
- Full sleeping kit (hammock, ropes, sleeping bag and mosquito net)
Recommended photo equipment:
- SLR or DSLR 24/36 camera with a macro lens and zoom lenses. If you can, bring a waterproof camera or silica gel against humidity and a waterproof container. Cameras can resist humidity but you might not want to put them in the water.
- Bring several spare batteries or, even better, a solar kit to recharge the batteries.
Upon request, you can rent a power generator (approx. €30/day).

- Mosquito/Insect repellent
- Toiletries (biodegradable soap)
- Travel pharmacy kit (check with your doctor)
- Halogen headlamp (4.5 to 6 volts for night paddling)
- Lighter + knife + machete in a case + sharpening file (bivouac)
- Pair of binoculars
- Flask or bottle of water
- Rainwear: trousers, jacket, waterproof coat, poncho
- Sunscreen: polarized sunglasses, hat and/or cap
- Hammock + sleeping bag + mosquito net + ropes
- Light outfits : canvas pants, cotton shirts, shorts ; t-shirts, swimming suits…
- Socks + non-rigid and light hiking shoes such as Pataugas + water sports sandals + flip flops
