Practical information
Try your hand at fly fishing near Johannesburg or improve your fishing techniques during a 2.5-hour private lesson!
⚠️ Please note that fishing equipment is not included in the price (rod: R150 / flies: R50) and that all fish caught must be released (the team will teach you the appropriate techniques for releasing them correctly, without risk of injuring them).
- Meeting with the instructor at Oxbow Country Estate, near the car park, 15 minutes before the start of the activity
- Beginning of the 2.5-hour lesson, with 1.5 hours of training for beginners followed by 1 hour of fishing with the guide to advise you:
- introduction to the sport of fly fishing and the safety rules to be observed;
- presentation of the fly fishing equipment and how to set it up;
- theory and practical advice on how to cast your fly road;
- basic entomology and how to select flies;
- information on the types of fish found locally (trout, sea bass, carp, kurper and catfish), their behaviour and where to find them;
- how to retrieve a fly, hook a fish and land it.
- At the end of the lesson, debriefing with the possibility, if you wish, of continuing to fish with the equipment provided for the rest of the day
All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Please arrive 15 minutes before the departure time.
Pets are not permitted to join in this activity.
All fish caught must be released (the team will teach you the appropriate techniques for releasing them correctly, without risk of injury).
Anyone wishing to accompany the participants but not take part in the fly-fishing lesson must pay R100 per adult and R50 per child.
