An 8-hour activity, including a 2.5-hour hike to Janela do Inferno and a swim at Caldeira Velha, São Miguel with a professional guide.

  • Maximum 8 participants per group.
  • Walking distance: 2.6 km (1.6 miles).
Course of events
  • Meet your professional guide in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel.
  • 15-minute drive to the starting point of the Janela do Inferno hike near Casa da Água and activity briefing with your guide.
  • Depart for a hike with breathtaking views over two of the island's six municipalities, Lagoa and Ponta Delgada, framed by the deep blue of the Atlantic Ocean.
  • Along the way, you'll cross several pastures, bridges and a total of four tunnels nestling in the forest.
  • At the end, you'll be rewarded with a stunning waterfall formed by the erosion of the water, a truly natural spectacle.
  • After this hike, you can relax at Caldeira Velha, a thermal pool with a waterfall!
  • Debriefing and return journey to Ponta Delgada (15 minutes).
Activity requirements

Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

A minimum of 2 participants is required for the activity to take place.

Special terms

Once your booking has been confirmed, please contact the instructor to arrange a pick-up time and place for your activity.

A torch is recommended, as the tunnels are dark and long. Because of these conditions, this tour is not particularly suitable for claustrophobic people.

For anyone with joint problems, we recommend using an elastic support for greater stability and to avoid further injury.

This tour is also not suitable for pregnant women or people with mental or physical disabilities.

Pets are not allowed on the tour.
