Practical information
A 5-hour introductory caving course in the Bouhadère cave, designed for those who have already tried abseiling.
- Progress underground will involve walking, climbing, crawling on all fours and, very occasionally, lying down.
- There will be verticals to abseil down (up to 26 metres / 85ft) and numerous climbing passages.
Course of events
Please allow around 7 hours in total for this activity, including 4.5 hrs to 5.5 hrs in the cave.
- Meet at Place de la Mairie in Saint Pé de Bigorre.
- Journey to the cave.
- Setting up the equipment.
- Approach walk to the cave.
- Briefing by your instructor on the activity, equipment and safety rules.
- A 5-hour introduction to caving in the Bouhadère cave, with a picnic break.
- De-equipping and debriefing.
Activity requirements
You need to be in good physical condition to take part in this activity.
A minimum of 4 participants is required.
You will need to use your own vehicle to get to the meeting point.
Special terms
Underground, the temperature is constant: around 13°C in the cave. So you'll need long, flexible sportswear, and prefer materials that don't retain moisture (polyester or polyamide, for example).
This cave is not subject to the risk of rising water levels: you can even go there in heavy rain.
