Practical information

Join Kohala Divers for a comfortable dive cruise along the Kohala Coast. This excursion is open to all divers, whether scuba divers or snorkelers, and aims to explore the seabed at two superb dive sites on the island of Hawai'i. As conditions on the Kohala coast are constantly changing, the crew will select the sites according to the best conditions once you're aboard the boat on the morning of the activity.

Whether you're a certified scuba diver, snorkeler, or just starting out, this activity is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the scenery while respectfully interacting with sea creatures, both large and small.

Course of events

Check-In:

- Arrive at the dive center.
- Complete the check-in process.
- Walk or drive a few steps to the dive boat, Namaka.

Boat and Dive Briefing:

- Receive a thorough briefing from your crew to prepare for your adventure.

Dive Site Selection:

- The crew will choose the dive site for the day based on the best conditions.

First Dive:

- Dive into the first site guided by your professional dive or snorkel guide (approximately 1 hour).

Break and Relocation:

- Enjoy snacks on board as you take a break.
- Relocate to the next chosen site.
- Sightsee along the coast, looking for resident dolphin pods and visiting humpback whales (seasonally).

Second Dive:

- Scuba dive or snorkel in the second location with your guide.
- Return to Kawaihae harbor in North Kona to disembark.

Activity requirements

Requirements for "Certified Open Water Divers or Above" option

  • Certification Level: A minimum Open Water Diver (or equivalent) certification is required to participate in this activity.
  • Recent Diving Experience: Must have been diving in the past 5 years or taken a refresher course (recommended every 2 years). You may be asked to show your logbook.
  • Swimming Ability: Able to swim against a mild to moderate current in open water.
  • Buoyancy Control: Able to independently maintain buoyancy well enough to complete a three-minute safety stop.
  • Group Diving: Comfortable diving in a group of up to 6 divers.

For "Snorkelers/Observers" or "PADI Scuba Divers" option

  • Swimming Ability: You just need to be able to swim.
