Course of events

After being picked up from your hotel in the morning, we head north through the picturesque highlands, passing by charming Cretan towns and enchanting landscapes, until we reach the entrance of the Milatos Cave. As we venture into the cave, our guide will recount the tragic tale of approximately 1500 local people who lost their lives at the hands of cruel Turk invaders. A modest ossuary near the cave's entrance now houses the bones of some of the victims. Please note that the cave has no lighting, so we provide torchlights for your exploration. Take note of the low ceiling at the entrance, which requires a slight stoop.

Continuing our journey, we head northeast to the wind farm perched high above Plaka. From this vantage point, you'll be treated to awe-inspiring views of Mirabello Bay and the captivating Spinalonga Island. Descending the mountain, we arrive at Spinalonga, where a speedboat awaits to take us on an exhilarating ride to the former leper colony.

While only authorized guides are permitted to lead on Spinalonga, your driver will provide you with plenty of information and directions before you enter. In our experience, hiring a guide is not necessary, but the option is available should you desire one. Please note that the speedboat will return to pick you up after approximately 1 hour.

Before entering through the Dantes gate, which once served as the entrance for lepers, a nominal admission fee is required. Take your time exploring the island's ruins and immersing yourself in its history before boarding the speedboat for a tour around the island and returning to Plaka.
