Practical information

Our hiking tour into the Foloi Forest and Centaurs' Gorge follows a spectacular, unique trail, of moderate difficulty through a narrow passage, leading you through high green walls of native small plants, nourished by moisture. During this excursion, you can breathe in the fresh air and discover the beautiful nature of the NATURA 2000 Network protected 33,000 acres area all while exploring the 688 m (2,257 ft) Mount Foloi in Ilia and meeting fellow hikers. This special hiking not only leads you through the only native broad-leaved oak forest in the Balkans, with old clusters of oaks, but it also teaches you about ancient myths.

To give you a little idea of what awaits you... According to mythology, Erymanthios Kapros came down to the region for food when the beast terrorized and destroyed the crops of the villagers. With his tusks he tore any animal he found in front of him, annoying even the Centaurs, who could not face it. With a trick, the famous Hercules managed to lead the animals to the Gorge of Foloi, which had been blocked with a net, to catch it alive and take it to Argos.

Our hiking tour lasts 4 to 5 hours and is ideal for families and children over 7 years with a basic physical condition.
