The Malangen fjord region is a must-see south of Tromsø, offering breathtaking natural landscapes between authentic villages, rugged mountains and picturesque valleys that make up the charm of the Norwegian fjords. Its remoteness from major cities also makes it a perfect place to observe the Northern Lights, a natural phenomenon that often occurs during the long Arctic winter nights. So if you are lucky enough to be in the area this winter, why not treat yourself to an evening dog sledding excursion at Malangen Fjord, with the chance to admire the Northern Lights during your adventure?
The Run Wild Mushing team awaits you in Mestervik, at their kennel located just 1.5 km from the shores of the fjord. Here you will meet not only the experienced musher who will guide you throughout the activity, but also your team of 4 to 6 dogs, which are great athletes participating in Europe's longest dog sled race: Finnmarkslopet (1,200 km). Supervised by mushing professionals, you will enjoy a complete immersion in this world with the opportunity to help the guide harness your new four-legged companions to your sled, as well as unharness them and reward them once the excursion is over.
Once you are fully prepared, you will set off for an hour-long dog sled ride at Malangen Fjord by night, equipped with headlamps to light your way along the snowy trails around the kennel. You will have the pleasure of gliding through the heart of a silent forest, with the only sound around you being the paws of the Alaskan huskies running and the sliding of your sled on the snow. Halfway through, you will enjoy a break to swap places between driver and passenger if you wish (driving is only possible from the age of 16), as well as taking the time to admire the Northern Lights if you are lucky enough to see them that night!
Combining professionalism and a passion for mushing, the Run Wild Mushing team is a small organisation that is not to be missed if you want to discover dog sledding near Tromsø. You will be greeted by dogs that are perfectly at ease, with everything they need for their well-being at their disposal, including a large space where they can continue to run once the excursion is over. So don't wait any longer to join them in Mestervik and enjoy an incredible night-time dog sledding experience at Malangen Fjord, with the chance to see the Northern Lights appear during your trip!
