Conquer the world's longest wooden staircase on this Flørli 4444 Hike in Lysefjorden, starting from Stavanger!
This trip begins in Stavanger, a vibrant city located on the southwestern coast of Norway. You'll travel to the nearby Lysefjorden, a stunning fjord known for its breathtaking scenery and dramatic cliffs.
The adventure begins by either meeting your guide at the starting point, or with pick-up from your accommodation in Stavanger (please specify your location upon booking). Previous hiking experience is recommended for this trip, and you must have a good physical fitness level. The experienced guide will drive you to the boat terminal in Lauvvik, a small village that serves as a gateway to the Lysefjorden.
You'll board a ferry and enjoy a scenic boat ride across the fjord. Along the way, you'll have a view of Pulpit Rock from below, a sheer cliff that is one of Norway's most iconic and breathtaking natural landmarks. Then, you'll arrive at the starting point of the hike, the Flørli Hydroelectric Power Station. Flørli is a small village located in the Lysefjorden area.
Flørli is famous for its 4444 wooden stairs, the longest wooden staircase in the world and a rite of passage for anyone travelling to Lysefjorden! You'll climb the staircase at a steady pace, ascending 740 meters (2,428 feet) to the top. Once you reach the top, you'll be rewarded with one of the most beautiful views in Norway. The panoramic view overlooks the breathtaking 40 km (25 mi) fjord below, as well as the surrounding mountains along the horizon.
You'll stop for a break at the top, capturing photos and enjoying your own packed lunch or snacks. On your descent, you'll follow the 100-year-old track that the “Rallar” used when they built the dam at Ternevatnet. Once back in Flørli, you'll have some free time to explore the village, visit the power station museum, and relax in a local cafe, before the return ferry to Lauvvik. The guide will then drive you back to your original starting point in Stavanger.
Challenge yourself to a once-in-a-lifetime climb up Flørli's 4,444 stairs on a hiking tour in Lysefjorden from Stavanger!
