Intermediate Falljökull Glacier Hike in Vatnajökull from Skaftafell

This adventure departs from Skaftafell, a park forming part of the larger Vatnajökull National Park in southern Iceland. You'll experience glacier hiking on Falljökull, an outlet glacier of Vatnajökull, the largest icecap in Europe!

Your hike on Falljökull Glacier begins at the starting point in Skaftafell. Upon arrival, you'll be greeted by the certified instructor and receive your glacier equipment (crampons, harness, helmet, ice axe and ropes). Then, you'll board a 4x4 truck and embark on a short drive to Falljökull in Vatnajökull National Park. At the starting point of the glacier, the guide will go through a safety briefing and instructions for your hiking tour on Falljökull.

Once everyone is prepared, you'll set off walking across the icy surface of the glacier. The guide will lead you safely to the icefall, following a route that changes depending on the weather conditions. You'll encounter the glacier's unique landscapes, including crystal-clear water streams, blue pools, and majestic ice formations. You may use ropes to reach higher parts of the glacier. When you are at the top of the icefall, you'll stop for a lunch break and admire the stunning panoramic views of Vatnajökull National Park. Afterwards, you'll return to the starting point in Skaftafell.
