Whether you want to have a completely bespoke lesson to get you surfing as soon as possible or to create a memorable experience for you and a special someone during a 2 person semi-private lesson, Kona Mikes has the surfing experience for you! For those under 7 years of age, private tandem surfing lessons are mandatory: the child will share a board with an instructor to catch waves safely whilst having fun! Private lessons are also mandatory for children under 10 years of age and during a semi-private lesson for 2 people under the age of 10, both parties will be assigned their own instructor to ensure their safety throughout the lesson.

To begin your private surf lesson near Kona, at Kahalu’u beach Park, you will meet your instructors by the Kona Mikes Surf van. There, they will equip you with rash guards and water shoes and then you will head down to the beach. After receiving a safety briefing on land and practicing a few pop-ups, your instructors will take you into the water where you can begin to surf some real waves – you’ll be standing up and riding waves by the end of the session!

Not only is Kahalu’u Bay incredibly beautiful, but it also has favourable wind and swell conditions and a variety of wave breaks, including smaller waves that are perfect for beginners. Afterwards at Kahalu’u Beach Park, you can continue to relax in the sun and surf or even enjoy some incredible snorkelling after your private surf lesson. Located just 5 miles south of Kailuna Kona, Kahalu’u Beach Park is easily accessible by car, bike, or even by foot depending on where you are staying.
