Discover Scuba Diving from Mandraki in Nisyros and explore unique underwater volcanic landscapes!
Nisyros is a small, volcanic island in Greece, part of the Dodecanese group. It is one of Greece's youngest volcanic islands, formed about 160,000 years ago. Its most famous feature is the Stefanos Crater, a massive, accessible volcanic crater where you can walk among steaming vents and sulfuric landscapes. On this scuba diving trip in Nisyros, you'll depart from Mandraki, the island's capital.
To start your adventure, you'll meet your certified instructor at the diving school in Mandraki. You can choose from a 1-dive or 2-dive package for this experience. The PADI Discover Scuba Diving program is an accessible first diving experience suitable for beginners. At the diving centre, you'll start with a safety overview and go through a medical questionnaire to ensure you are in good health. Before the diving day, you'll be sent the PADI e-learning materials which detail the basic theory of scuba diving. At the diving centre, you'll receive and try on your equipment (mask, snorkel, fins, wet suit, BCD, regulator, tank, and weights). The instructor will provide a 30-45-minute verbal training session on how to use the gear.
Afterwards, you'll drive in a van to the diving location at the central beach of Mandraki. You'll enter the water in wet suits directly from the shore for your first dive in Nisyros. At a standing depth, you'll put on the rest of the equipment and go through 4 safety skills in shallow water. Then, your scuba diving experience in Mandraki begins! At a maximum depth of 6 metres (20 feet), you'll dive beneath the surface and discover the magnificent underwater world. You'll dive at a safe bay, rich in fascinating marine life. After the diving experience, you'll exit the sea and return to the starting point.
If you choose to embark on a second dive, you'll have a short break at the diving school and enjoy a tasty watermelon snack. Then, you'll set off to a different location for your second dive in Nisyros. For this dive, you'll use a new scuba cylinder. Depending on your performance on the first dive, you may dive to a maximum depth of 12 metres (39 feet). Once again, you'll be treated to mesmerising views of rock formations, colourful sea life, and unique volcanic features. At the end of your second dive, you'll return to the starting point in Mandraki.
