Hiking to Korouoma Canyon & Auttiköngäs Waterfall from Rovaniemi

This small-group trip departs from Rovaniemi, the vibrant capital city of Finnish Lapland and gateway to many beloved Arctic landmarks. On this hiking tour to Korouoma, you'll explore breathtaking summer nature, including unique rock formations, lush boreal forests, and pristine waterfalls!

The adventure begins with pick-up from the meeting point in Rovaniemi or your accommodation in the city (please specify when booking). You'll be greeted by the experienced outdoor guide and embark on a 1.5-hour scenic drive to the nature reserve of Korouoma. Upon arrival at the starting point, you'll go through a quick safety and itinerary briefing. Then, the hiking in Korouoma begins! While this area is famous for its frozen waterfalls in the winter, during this summer trip, you'll be treated to picturesque cliffs and rock formations.

Following the expert guide, you'll hike for approximately 5 km (3 mi), passing through pine forests and winding down into the canyon along the river and cliffs. During the hiking tour to Korouoma Canyon, the guide will share fascinating insights about Arctic nature and Lapland. Midway through, you'll stop for a break to enjoy barbequed Finnish snacks and hot drinks around an open fire. In the heart of the 30-km (19-mi)-long canyon, you'll admire old-growth forests, lush greenery, and scenic riverbanks.

After hiking in Korouoma Canyon, you'll head back towards Rovaniemi. On the return journey, you'll stop at the famous Auttiköngäs, a spectacular 16-metre (52-foot)-high waterfall. The guide will lead you on a short hike to Auttiköngäs Waterfall, where you'll observe the impressive flow and beautiful surrounding gorge landscape. It is also possible to add on a longer 1.5-hour hike around this area (please get in touch to arrange). Afterwards, you'll be driven back to the original starting point in Rovaniemi.
