Here you can explore both the mountain and the sky, in a unique place where the starry skies shine brightly! Located in southern Quebec, the Mont-Mégantic International Dark Sky Reserve is a paradise for astronomy enthusiasts. A world leader in the protection of the night sky, its aim is to reduce light pollution using a variety of technologies. With an area of 5,260 km2, it is the largest international dark sky reserve.
As part of this astronomy discovery activity in southern Quebec, you'll have the chance to visit the ASTROLab in Mont-Mégantic national park. This museum is located within the park and includes two exhibition rooms as well as a multimedia room with a giant screen. This astronomy discovery activity is suitable for all the family: you can watch a film on cosmic evolution in ultra high definition, take part in family activities, and even enjoy a virtual reality session open to children aged 8 and over.
After visiting the ASTROLab, you can head to the top of the park, at an altitude of 1,110 metres, for a guided tour of the famous Mont-Mégantic observatory. This observatory is the most powerful in Canada and a central tool for astronomical research in the region. Here you'll find the most powerful telescope in Canada.
