Embark on a surprising adventure in Montreal with a 1.5-hour introduction to caving in the Saint-Léonard cavern, in the heart of the city!
Did you know that you could go caving in Montreal, in the heart of the city where a cave dating back some 15,000 years is hidden? It may seem surprising, but it is true! You can visit the Saint-Léonard cavern in Pie-XII Park, accompanied by a professional guide-interpreter who will show you around and ensure your safety throughout the visit. It is a family activity accessible to anyone aged 6 and over, and anyone who can move around unaided!
For 1.5 hours, you will discover caving in the Saint-Léonard cavern through explanations provided by your guide, as well as some fun activities. Most of the 35-metre-long cave will be standing up, but you will also be able to crouch on some sections: make sure you wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty! A helmet will be provided before you enter the Saint-Léonard cavern, along with a headlamp to light your way into the darkness of the underground world. You will be amazed to find yourself moving around in such a dark and silent environment in the middle of Montreal, just a stone's throw from the city's buildings!

Practical information
Discover caving in Montreal, in the Saint-Léonard cavern: for 1.5 hours, you will explore the cavern with a guide who will introduce you to the scientific basis of the discipline, the cavern and suggest some underground activities.
- Meeting at Parc Pie-XII at the Spéléo Québec reception desk
- Briefing on the activity and safety instructions, with a short presentation of the Saint-Léonard cavern
- Approach walk to the cavern (approx. 2 minutes)
- Depart for 1.5-hour of caving in the Saint-Léonard cavern: you will have to climb down a few ladders inside, and the guide will give you a more detailed presentation of the cavern, as well as suggest a few underground activities
- Return to the reception, return of the equipment (helmet and headlamp) and end of the activity
All participants need to be able to move around unaided to take part in this activity.
All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Please arrive 15 minutes before the departure time.
A minimum of 2 participants is required to run this activity.
This activity is not accessible to people with motor disabilities and infants.
Pets are not permitted to join in this activity.
Please note that the activity can be messy: we recommend that you wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty and bring a change of clothes.
