Experience the power of nature on this vertical challenge on Stuibenfall waterfall in Tyrol

Clip in and don’t look back at Lehner Waterfall in Tyrol

Once you commit to following the iron road, the only way is forward – exploring the highs and lows of Lehner Waterfall on this fixed via ferrata course in the heart of the Austrian Alps. A challenge that tests your mental stamina more than your technical skill – views from the top of Forstweg (1,450m) are worth the effort – overlooking the Ötztal Valley.

Location
Lehner Waterfall is a 160km fixed rope via ferrata course with two routes – one with an optional 30° overhang. The starting point is in Lehn near Längenfeld and climbs to 1,450m with two tightrope bridges over the route’s namesake waterfall.

Activity
Meet your instructor at the activity base in Sautens for this via ferrata excursion at Lehner Waterfall. Suitable for total beginners and adventure nomads alike, this half-day adventure navigates a 160m high rock wall up to the summit of Forstweg (1,450m) – following an iron road of challenging pegs, steps and ladders! Starting with a short safety briefing from your guide, you will clip into the lead wire and start your ascent of the cliff line. With two routes to choose from, you don’t need any previous experience to conquer this climb – but a head for heights is essential as you will be required to cross two tightrope bridges that are suspended over the waterfall and, for extra thrill factor there’s even a two-handed climb over a 30° overhang (considered a D on the UIAA rating). A white-knuckle adventure that scales a sheer rock face, get close enough to feel the freshwater spray of the waterfall - making to the top in time for stunning views over the valley. After a walk back down to the carpark, you will return to the base to celebrate the achievement with a few light refreshments at the end.

Conditions
Lehner waterfall is a protected, fixed rope climbing route equipped with fixed ladders, cables and bridges – accessed using a two-clip wire and slide karabiner system. No previous climbing experience or rope skills required it rates B-D on the Austrian UIAA scale. Grip tread trainers and gloves recommended.
