Explore the Volcanic Caldera, shipwrecks, and the Aegean marine life around Santorini on a scuba diving adventure for certified divers! You can choose a package that suits you from 1-10 tank dives.
Santorini is a stunning volcanic island located in the southern Aegean Sea, part of the Cyclades group of islands in Greece. The island boasts charming villages, beautiful beaches and crystal-clear waters. For this activity, you will travel from Akrotiri, an archaeological site in Santorini.
The adventure begins at the dive centre in Akrotiri, where you will meet the certified instructor. The dive centre is located on Caldera Beach, which offers swift and easy access to the best diving spots around the Caldera and the volcanoes. The big volcanic eruption that formed Santorini left in its stead some magnificent underwater scenery with lots of walls and drop-offs to be discovered during your dives. There are lockers, sunbeds, umbrellas, toilets and beach showers available at the centre. Also, snacks, water, and tea/coffee will be offered.
Choose from 1-10 dives, over a maximum of 5 days. You must have at least an Open Water Diver certification or equivalent to take part in the activity. After a safety and itinerary briefing, you'll receive the scuba diving equipment (fins, mask, wetsuit, regulators, tank and weights). Each dive will depart from a small pier at Caldera Beach. You will board a spacious 9m fibreglass boat that can carry up to 20 people and sail to the dive site.
The dive sites will depend on the weather conditions, but they usually take place around the New and Old Volcano of Santorini. The sites offer plenty to explore, from funky lava formations to diverse marine life. Commonly encountered creatures include lobsters, moray eels, clams and spirographs hiding amongst the lava rocks. There is also a small passenger ship that sunk in the bay at the new volcano, offering great dives for experienced shipwreck divers.
At the dive sites around the edge of the caldera and below the cliffs, there are protected reefs full of marine life including colourful sponges, nudibranchs, groupers, snappers, barracuda and many schools of fish. After each dive, you can either relax on the beautiful small beach or enjoy the Greek cuisine and the breathtaking views of the Caldera cliffs and the Volcano at the traditional Remezzo tavern next to the dive centre.
Explore the many facets of the Santorini seabeds on a guided, personalised adventure dive in Akrotiri!
