Quand Jacques du Plessis avait 8 ans, il pensait pouvoir voler. Il était passionné du vol dès le plus jeune âge, et à 12 ans, il a vu un parapente survoler sa maison, cet instant allait changer sa vie pour toujours.
À 25 ans, alors qu'il se rendait à une réunion d'affaires, Jacques s'arrêta sur le bord de la route près du barrage de Hartebeespoort et observa les futurs pilotes s'entraîner à l'art du parapente. Quelques heures plus tard, il s'est approché du moniteur de parapente et a été autorisé à manipuler sa première aile. Plus tard, il a ensuite effectué son premier vol en tandem et son rêve est devenu réalité.
Puis, il a acheté son premier parapente solo et a commencé son nouveau passe-temps, le parapente. Il ne savait pas qu'il y avait des règles et des techniques spécifiques et qu'il devait passer par différents niveaux de formation et de licence. Il a finalement trouvé un instructeur de parapente et a obtenu sa licence. Il a ensuite déménagé au Cap pour devenir un pilote biplace commercial et a par la suite trouvé le nom d'Icarus Tandem Paragliding.
Le parapente est un sport extrême, mais vous êtes entre de bonnes mains avec les pilotes d'Icarus. Ils sont tous des Instructeurs de Vol en Tandem très expérimentés et certifiés par le SAHPA (l'Association Sud-Africaine de Vol Libre et de Parapente).

Our instructors at Icarus were really lovely, and very much safety conscious. They wouldn’t take unnecessary risks which we obviously very much appreciated. We were also in close communication on the day and they were great at giving us updates.
